AIDER is proud to be among the contributors to the Joint Stakeholder Submission for Ghana’s 4th cycle Universal Periodic Review (UPR).
In partnership with the BCU Centre for Human Rights, this submission highlights persistent human rights concerns and offers concrete recommendations to strengthen state accountability and access to justice in Ghana.

- Policing practices, including excessive use of force
- Barriers to justice for survivors of domestic and sexual violence
- Implementation gaps in disability rights protections
- Discrimination against LGBTQ+ persons
- Access to legal aid and fair trial guarantees
Each section is backed by current data, national legal analysis, and stakeholder consultations on the ground.
Why This Matters
Ghana has long been seen as a democratic leader in West Africa. However, as our submission outlines, there remain significant challenges in ensuring human rights protections extend to all citizens — particularly marginalised groups.
The Universal Periodic Review process offers an opportunity to secure reforms and reinforce Ghana’s international commitments.
